More about Gus

GusGus was found completely emaciated. He weighs about 45 pounds now, but once he gets up to his ideal weight he will probably be more like 70-75 pounds. He is a big handsome boy who is as sweet and gentle as they come. He is good with other dogs and loves people of all ages.

Despite whatever happened to him in the past, Gus won't let that get him down. He always looks at the glass as half full and likes to make people smile... and with his big brown eyes and happy tail, he succeeds every time!

UPDATE: 10/4/2009
Gus' foster mom reports that he is a fabulous dog. He is great with dogs and cats and is a real charmer with people and kids. His tail is always wagging. Gus loves stuffed toys... especially when playing low-key games of tug-o-war. He will also carry his "stuffy" around in his mouth just for the fun of it.

UPDATE: 12-22-09
This was written by Gus's foster dad Bill: Gus's weight now averages around 70 pounds. He continues to improve and gets stronger with each passing day as he enjoys his walks and play time with his foster family. Toss one of his toys and he will faithfully fetch and retrieve it for you. Reach for a leash and he's at your side ready to go. Go out to the car and you will find him patiently waiting to go with you for a ride. The pet store is a favorite destination, but he is content to wait in the car while you shop. A laid back gentleman who is comfortable and friendly towards all he meets and always seems relaxed regardless of the situation. Gus may be more comfortable as an only pet, but a love connection is always possible. He interacts, plays and has had no issues with his foster family's dog, a larger Amstaff/Mastif mix. Definitely a great companion dog who will appreciate all the time and attention you have to spare. Although it can take up to a year to recover from the mental and physical effects of emaciation, full recovery with no adverse effects is the norm. Don't let Gus's condition or age concern you, he got a lot of life left to live and even more to give.
